Thoughts about School-Based Art Therapy during a Global Pandemic

A few thoughts about Art Therapy during a global pandemic based on observations made in the Art Therapy Room

  • It is so possible to make meaningful art and share it and not be in the same room or building.
  • It has not always been easy... Not every session inspires our kids to engage with the art materials they have, but when an artist gets that spark... we've witnessed some meaningful art happen under extraordinary circumstances.
  • Being together when we can... even with masks, social distancing and careful measures to not share materials is something kids really respond to and the art shows it!
  • Kids need an outlet and a safe way to express feelings about all the changes they have been handed as our world sorts out the safest ways to respond to this health crisis.  Art can be that powerful outlet.
  • Art finds a way.
