Welcome Back to 2017-2018 School Year!

How was your summer?  Some summer's are so good... they are a little hard to shake.
Hope yours was good to you and you are left daydreaming just a little about
something you did or accomplished.

I am always excited to return to school each year!

And yet...
I am reminded that not every student enters that first day with the same sense of excitement as some of their teachers and peers.

Parents and Teachers:
Here are a few inspirational quotes to share and discuss with your kids to help them keep this time of their life in perspective and not give up or give in.

And Finally...
One for all the grown-ups teaming to help each student!
As we strive for excellence and help each student reach their potential, let's not forget that this is only a piece of making our students and our world truly excellent!

Have a great School Year!

2016-2017 WRAP-UP

What a year!

It has been a privilege working with our amazing art therapy students and supporting and witnessing such important growth

We have found ways to express what we need.

"Leader"- A painting that changed several times until it made the right statement for now.

We have created for those who support us the most.

Pottery for Mother's Day

And now we ready the room for another Summer Break!

Mr.Schwartz's Art Therapy Room at West.  Still Proud of our AMS Artist Saheem for that ARTSY Poster image!!!

Have a safe and splashy summer!

And Finally...Here is an article for parents interested in keeping their kids' brains and hearts active and growing through the summer months.

Creative and Assertive!

Creative & Assertive!

Mr. Schwartz's Workshop has been busting at the seams
with creative expression!
and
Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders have recently wrapped
up a 5 lesson training on what it means to
try to meet our needs and solve our differences
in an ASSERTIVE way!

It is exciting to see how many of our art therapy
students can now recognize when an
interaction is assertive, passive or aggressive.
As we welcome in the SPRING season
(which tried desperately to pop up in the winter...)
We are excited to be working on art pieces
that will be featured in this year's
20th Annual ARTSY Art Exhibit
April 22-28th.  More info to come!

Happy 2017!

I am sharing a link and the article that has some excellent tips for how to make setting NEW YEARS goals more meaningful for kids!  And... as usual, this is not bad advice for adult goals as well.
Here's to a new year of realistic and meaningful goals for us all!
